Online vacation rental company HomeAway, owner of Vrbo, is in hot water with the city of Los Angeles.
City Attorney Mike Feuer announced that his office has filed a lawsuit against HoeAway for failure to comply with the city’s regulations on home-sharing.
According to the L.A. Times, the city alleges that HomeAway processed or completed at least 776 transactions for local short-term rentals from Nov. 7-Dec. 7. Of those, 229 did not have a valid home-sharing registration number or a pending registration status number, as is required by law.
HomeAway acquired the home-sharing platform Vrbo in 2006.
The city is seeking up to $5,000 in penalties for each violation.
