Information Collection and Use

This Privacy Policy applies only to the information California Listings and its Affiliates collect through the websites, mobile applications, electronic devices and all other print and digital products and services we provide, any other services that display this Privacy Policy, and all of the associated content, functionalities and advertising (collectively, the “Services”). This Privacy Policy governs the Services regardless of how you access them.

California Listings is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. We will not sell, share or rent this information to others in ways different from what is disclosed in this statement. California Listings collects information from our users at several different points on our website.

Website Registration

In order to use some features of this website, users must first complete the registration form. During registration, users are required to give their contact information (name and e-mail address). This information is used to contact users about the topics on our site for which they have expressed interest and to enable users to retrieve lost passwords. It is optional for the user to provide demographic information (mailing address, position, technical skill, etc.).

California Listings may collect information for other site features, including:

• make a purchase 
• enter a sweepstakes or contest or register for a promotion
• participate in voting or polling activities, surveys or similar activities where users are asked to respond to a variety of questions
• request certain features (e.g., newsletters, updates, and other products)
• post user-generated content, including comments, to or on any of our services

Cookies

California Listings uses cookies to remember if users have logged in while on our site. This allows website users to avoid logging in more than once, thereby saving time. Users have the option of disabling or not accepting cookies by changing the preferences on their browsers*. If users opt to disable cookies, they will still be able to use our website. However, they will not be able to use some functionality or post comments. No personally identifiable information (e-mail address, name, etc.) is collected with the cookies that we set. Accepting cookies while on California Listings website will not put the user at risk for marketing to other sites.

Web Statistics

We use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the site, track user movement and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use for reporting and sponsorship purposes. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.

This website takes every precaution to protect our users’ information, and we have security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control.

Surveys

Occasionally, our site requests information from users via Web surveys. Participation in these surveys or contests is completely voluntary and the user therefore has a choice whether or not to disclose this information. Information requested may include demographic data (such as zip code, age, annual income), but nothing that can identify any individual person will be collected. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
