Information Collection and Use
California Listings is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. We will not sell, share or rent this information to others in ways different from what is disclosed in this statement. California Listings collects information from our users at several different points on our website.
In order to use some features of this website, users must first complete the registration form. During registration, users are required to give their contact information (name and e-mail address). This information is used to contact users about the topics on our site for which they have expressed interest and to enable users to retrieve lost passwords. It is optional for the user to provide demographic information (mailing address, position, technical skill, etc.).
California Listings may collect information for other site features, including:
- make a purchase
- enter a sweepstakes or contest or register for a promotion
- participate in voting or polling activities, surveys or similar activities where users are asked to respond to a variety of questions
- request certain features (e.g., newsletters, updates, and other products)
- post user-generated content, including comments, to or on any of our services
*Different browsers have different cookie settings.
We use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the site, track user movement and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use for reporting and sponsorship purposes. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.
We may collect different types of information about your location, including general information (IP address, ZIP code) and more specific information (GPS-based functionality on mobile devices used to access the services), and may use that information to customize the services with location-based information, advertising, and features. For example, if your IP address indicates an origin in Hollywood, the services may be customized with Hollywood-specific information and advertisements. To do this, your location information may be shared with our agents, vendors or advertisers. If you access the services through a mobile device and you do not want your device to provide us with location-tracking information, you can disable the GPS or other location-tracking functions on your device, provided your device allows you to do this. See your device manufacturer’s instructions for further details.
We will share aggregated demographic information with our partners, sponsors and donors. This is not linked to any personal information that can identify any individual person. We only share this information so that we can secure funding to continue providing this site free of charge.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
This website contains links to other sites. Please be aware that California Listings does not claim any responsibility for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every website that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this website. We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our Web site. These companies may use aggregated information (not including your name, address, email address or telephone number) about your visits to this and other Web sites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices about not having this information used by these companies, please see: http://www.networkadvertising.org/managing/opt_out.asp
Anyone who believes their work has been reproduced in a way that constitutes copyright infringement may notify the company by providing the following information: Identification of the copyrighted work that you claim has been infringed, or, if multiple copyrighted works at a single online site are covered by a single notification, a representative list of such works at the site; Identification of the material that you claim is infringing and needs to be removed, including a description of where it is located so that the copyright agent can locate it; Your address, telephone number, and, if available, e-mail address, so that the copyright agent may contact you about your complaint; and
A signed statement that the above information is accurate; that you have a good faith belief that the identified use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or are authorized to act on the copyright owner’s behalf in this situation.
Upon obtaining such knowledge we will act expeditiously to remove, or disable access to, the material.
This website takes every precaution to protect our users’ information, and we have security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control.
Occasionally, our site requests information from users via Web surveys. Participation in these surveys or contests is completely voluntary and the user therefore has a choice whether or not to disclose this information. Information requested may include demographic data (such as zip code, age, annual income), but nothing that can identify any individual person will be collected. Survey results will be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the use and satisfaction of this site.
Our users are given the opportunity to “opt-in” to newsletters and site update e-mail messages. To unsubscribe from mailings and/or updates, please e-mail email@example.com
Notification of Changes
What personal data we collect and why we collect it:
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
