Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan ended the year with a second land purchase on the island of Kauai—including a century-old former sugar plantation reservoir.
According to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, Zuckerberg and Chan dropped $17 million on 110 acres of paradise, following a $53 million deal for 600 acres in April 2021. Coupled with their 2014 purchase, the pair now own more than 1,400 acres of land on the Hawaiian island.
The most recent deal includes taking ownership of the Ka Loko Reservoir, which suffered a damn break in 2006, sending 300 million gallons of water downhill, killing seven people. The dam has remained unrepaired since then, though the Honolulu Star-Advertiser notes that the couple plan to repair the reservoir.
In addition to the land, Zuckerberg and Chan have a home in Ko‘olau Ranch, which they call their Hawaiian residence. Additionally, property records show the couple has building permits in the works for another residence on the property featuring 35,888 square feet of living space and valued at around $35 million, per the report.
