Search efforts continue in Surfside, Florida as the region prepares for possible tropical storm impact. What remained of Champlain Towers South was demolished over the weekend, as officials deemed it necessary for the safety of rescue crews, with forecasts of rain, wind and thunderstorms ahead this week.
According to CNN, 117 people remain unaccounted for and 28 people have, as of Monday evening, been confirmed to have died in the incident.
As the search heads into it’s second week, Israel Defense Forces National Rescue Unit in the Home Front Command Col. told CNN the efforts are still deemed a rescue mission—meaning that officials are not just looking for remains, there is still hope of finding victims alive.
