The Los Angeles City Council has approved use of $65.6 million in bond money and tax generated through city measures to build two new supportive housing developments in the valley.
According to Urbanize, the first project will sit at the vacant lot at 9190 Telfair Avenue in Sun Valley. Dubbed Sun King, the 26 unit apartment building will house people experiencing homelessness, as well as individuals and families earning at or below 50 percent of the area’s median income.
In addition to the one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, the building will feature a community garden, computer center, and offices for children’s services programs.
In neighboring Panorama City, $54 million was approved by the city council to help fund Corazon del Valle. Urbanize reports that the project will house 180 apartments above 3,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and parking.
Set for 14545 Lanark Street, Corazon del Valle will cater to young adults aging-out of foster care, families with a member that has special needs, formerly homeless households and low-income families. Construction is expected to be completed by 2023.
