Bulk shopping may soon include bulk housing in South L.A. The L.A. Times is reporting that a planned Costco development in the Baldwin Village neighborhood will incorporate some 800 apartments in the build.
Developer Thrive Living has announced plans to reimagine the site on Coliseum Street as a mixed-use apartment project with a Costco store on the ground floor. AO is the designer of the development.
Plans call for a six-story building featuring five courtyards, a rooftop pool, basketball courts and a fitness area. The mixed-use project would be 25 percent retail and 75 percent housing.
Of the 800 apartments, 184 units will be reserved for low-income tenants.
The site would feature a “state-of-the-art store, featuring fresh produce, healthy food options for residents,” according to the developer. The store would also include an optical service counter and pharmacy.
