The long-awaited re-opening of L.A. Sixth Street Bridge is finally here. Following six years of reconstruction, the 3,500 square feet viaduct will include sidewalks and bike lanes along both sides of the bridge, as well as stairwells to the impending park.
The 13 acre rec space—deemed the Sixth Street Park, Arts, River, and Connectivity Project or PARC—will begin construction by next year.
“We are thrilled to reopen the newly built Sixth Street Viaduct and usher in a new era for Los Angeles,” said Councilmember Kevin de León in a news release. “Once again, this bridge will take its place as one of Los Angeles’ most iconic landmarks connecting the Arts District and Boyle Heights. This celebration will be a tribute to the years of dedicated work that went into creating one of the most inspiring public works projects in our City’s history.”
The bridge officially re-opens on July 9, followed by pedestrian-only traffic on July 10. Vehicles can begin using the bridge at 7 p.m. on July 10.
