It was the home that just couldn’t seem to sell, and now the legendary Max Azria estate is headed to auction. Concierge Auctions has announced bidding for the 1930s Holmby Hills estate is set to open this May.
The home has been on and off the market since April 2015, when it was first listed for $85 million. Since then, the asking price has gone as high as $88 million and as low as $68 million.
The largest residence ever designed by revered architect Paul Williams, the home boasts 14 bedrooms and 25 bathrooms—a study in classic design and opulent finishes. From the floor-to-ceiling Swarovski chandelier in the grand dual staircase foyer to the shimmering metallic leaf draping from the living room ceiling, the elevated design elements are a stark contrast to Williams’ quintessential colonial architecture.
There are 60(!) rooms in total—including a Moroccan bathhouse, bar/lounge and home theater—each with intricate trim work. A standout is, of course, the gold ceiling dome library, which overlooks the grounds, which include a Japanese Garden and teahouse, French-style courtyard, infinity pool, a glass-walled tennis court and a greenhouse.
Bidding, which will open on May 9 and culminate on May 23, is estimated to start up to $38 million.
