An L.A. landmark has been listed for sale—one steeped in infamy. Hotel Cecil in Downtown Los Angeles has been listed on LoopNet with no asking price attached. The infamous property gained recent pop culture relevance thanks to a Netflix doc focused on a mysterious death at the location.
Built in the 1920s and designated as a historical landmark, the 159,803 square-foot building boasts 601 units among 15 floors. During the 1980s, the hotel was reportedly home to serial killer Richard Ramirez, aka “The Night Stalker,” as well as Austrian serial killer Jack Unterweger.
During the pandemic, the hotel was turned into emergency and supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness. A new owner would be required to take over the 99-year ground lease, which allows its long-term use and development.
Last year, the property’s land and improvements were assessed at $31 million. The building’s listing notes the property is currently 60 percent occupied, with an expectation that it would be 80-90 percent filled by midyear.
Adam Tischer, Dmitry Levkov and Jeffrey Donnelly with Colliers hold the listing.
