Even a $2 million “deal” didn’t appear to be enough to keep Brady Bunch homeowner Tina Trahan from worrying about her headline-making home purchase. But now the new trophy property homeowner is walking back comments she made saying the move was the “worst investment ever.”
HGTV bought and transformed the Studio City home in 2018 for $3.5 million, before listing it for $5.5 million. Trahan bought the property for $3.2 million last week, telling the Wall Street Journal that she felt the house was overpriced because it doesn’t have modern appliances or conveniences, adding: “Nobody is going to live in it. No one is going in there to make pork chops and applesauce in that kitchen. Anything you might do to make the house livable would take away from what I consider artwork.”
Now, Trahan tells People that she feels the home wasn’t a “bad investment” for her, but she didn’t buy the Brady Bunch home as a property investment. Instead, she bought it as a piece of artwork.
“When I was buying it, I wasn’t thinking, ‘Oh, it was a great investment,'” Trahan said. “When I buy art, it’s because I love the art. It’s not because, ‘Oh, I’m going to make money on this.’ Because… if you’re going to make money in art, you have to sell it. I buy art, and then I don’t sell it.”
Meticulously rebuilt and designed to replicate the set of the home from the beloved 1970s sitcom, the home is reportedly second-most photographed home in the U.S. after the White House. Trahan said she plans to use the property for fundraising and charitable events.
From the infamous staircase that anchors the home, to the bright orange formica kitchen counters, to the blue bunk beds and pink twin beds—and let’s not forget about the groovy attic—the 5,140 square foot home boasts five bedrooms and five bathrooms. The home has soaring ceilings, big windows and sliding glass doors which fill the space with natural light. Plus, curated furnishings and accessories are included in the sale and will take you back in time to a unique era.
Danny Brown of Compass held the listing. Marcy Roth and Fredrik Eklund with Douglas Elliman repped the buyer.
