On August 30, the Strategic Growth Council approved awards totaling $757 million to 21 Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities Program projects throughout California. The program continues to be one of the largest funding programs for affordable housing in the state with more than $3 billion invested.
Just over $187 million of the recent funding pool is slated for five projects located in L.A. County to create more than 850 homes. The program has provided $494 million to the City of Los Angeles, supporting 4,338 new housing units.
New local projects to receive funding include Crenshaw Crossing, a housing project with 176 affordable homes in the heart of South Los Angeles; HHH New Hampshire, a partnership between BRIDGE Housing Corporation and the City of L.A. that will create 93 affordable homes in Koreatown; Metro at Florence, which will create 158 affordable homes for the unincorporated FlorenceFirestone community; 306 E. Washington, which will provide 96 affordable homes in Downtown L.A.
Also awarded funding were the Mulberry Gardens Family Apartments, which will provide 150 affordable homes near downtown Riverside, and Riverwalk, a project that will create 190 affordable homes in San Diego.
In all, this year’s awarded projects will lead to the creation of more than 2,500 new affordable homes throughout the state.
