When you’re a newly minted billionaire, one home just simply isn’t enough.
Billion-dollar Powerball winner Edwin Castro, who took home the record-breaking $2 billion lottery winnings late last year, recently closed on a $25.5 million Hollywood Hills mansion—but he also bought a pad a little closer to “home.”
Castro has reportedly also bought a decidedly less expensive but no-less luxurious home in Altadena, just three miles from the gas station where he made his lucky purchase back in November of 2022. The Japanese-inspired modern home boasts five bedrooms, four bathrooms and some 4,361 square feet of living space.
The home’s U-shaped focal point is a courtyard that creates its own private oasis to escape and lounge in a zen patio completed by a red floating Japanese roof and a tranquil pond. There is also a saltwater pool in the back for refreshing dips.
The kitchen, den, bedrooms and hallway posses sliding doors that harmoniously connect the interior space to the exterior courtyard. The dramatic living room has an inset lighting design, floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the Japanese well-manicured gardens.
The living room is open to the dining room with a well-appointed Nelson Saucer pendant. The gourmet kitchen boasts a huge island that houses a double sink, dishwasher, cabinets, breakfast bar and trash compactor. The Thermador refrigerator and separate freezer are flush with the cabinets, other appliances include a Thermador double oven and six-burner, griddle stovetop, a warming drawer, microwave and wine refrigerator.
Additional features and updates include copper plumbing, an entire house water filtration system by LifeSouce, and a sound system in the living room, kitchen, office and outdoors.
Veronica Paglia of Compass held the listing, while Max Lindenberger of Back Bay Realty Group repped the buyer.
