A piece of Hollywood history has a new owner following the sale of Marilyn Monroe’s former Hollywood home. The French Normandy townhome in Walter C. Kings landmark, Chateau Beachwood, was designed in 1937 and was reportedly built by Warner Bros to house their starlets (legend has it, this list includes Greta Garbo, Marlene Deitrich, Madonna and Marilyn Monroe, who is said to have lived in this very unit!)
The two bedroom/one-and-a-half bath was listed for $899,000 just last month and has closed for $1,129,200.
Featuring 1,200 square feet of living space, the unit boasts oversized casement windows and strip oak hardwood floors, a formal dining area and all-white kitchen that features stainless steel Bertazzoni stove and microwave, wine fridge, and Fisher and Paykel dishwasher drawers.
Gorgeous green magnesite stairs with the original art deco balustrade lead upstairs. Both oversized bedrooms feature “wedding cake” relief plasterwork and are flooded by light from oversized casement windows. The large bathroom features a walk-in shower and original yellow and purple tilework with a matching green bathtub, toilet, and sink.
Marlena Maidhof of ACME Real Estate held the listing, while Silke Fernald, also with ACME, repped the buyer.
