California’s drought is only expected to worsen as we officially head into the summer months, and beginning tomorrow, June 1, L.A. residents are being tasked with doing their part to ease the burden.
The Los Angeles Department of Power and Water will impose new water restrictions on millions of residents effective tomorrow. Homeowners with a standard sprinkler system will be limited to a maximum of eight minutes on approved watering days—twice a week. Those will water-conserving nozzle sprinklers can increase watering to two 15-minute cycles per day.
Watering is not allowed between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and is also prohibited while it’s raining and for 48 hours after it rains.
The Conservation Response Unit will also be on the lookout for violations. Using excessive water, or allowing runoff water to go unattended will cost residents fines up to $600 for continued infractions. (First-time violators will receive a warning.)
