With more than 100 past contestants in the RuPaul’s Drag Race family, a queen has to think outside the box to stand out. It appears fan favorite Trixie Mattel has done just that, bring some glamour to Palm Springs real estate and hospitality.
According to Out Traveler, Mattel will open Trixie Motel this summer, following her $1.950 million purchase and a $500,000 renovation. And naturally, all will be captured on film for a Discovery+ renovation show that chronicles its creation.
Mattel and David Silver purchased the property in late 2020, and got a bargain! Per property records, the motel was listed at $2.150 million in mid 2020. Since closing the deal, Mattel and Silver hired designer Dani Dazey to collaborate with on the look and feel. The seven-unit motel will reportedly feature a classic 1960s California vibe (a very Palm Springs aesthetic).
The location was originally Ruby Montana’s Coral Sands Inn—a decidedly less glam property as seen above. Mattel had reportedly planned to turn it into an AirBnB to rent out, but soon pivoted to the motel model.
