Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Michael “Flea” Balzary has listed an architectural wonder atop the hills in L.A.’s La Crescenta area. Having paid $4.25 million for the property in 2018,
Balzary has since added a pool and cabin—boasting today’s asking price to $9.8 million.
Designed by noted architect Richard Neutra in 1953, the original house features 1,350 square feet of living space, boasting walls of glass, a stone fireplace and a plethora of Neutra designed built-ins. Nearly a half a century later, award-winning architect Michael Maltzan was commissioned to build the main residence, anchored by a seven-sided structure with an interior courtyard. Balzary then commissioned Maltzan to design an 875 foot addition in 2021.
Today, the entire residence features five bedrooms and five bathrooms, opening up to a flat grassy pad with mountain and city skyline views throughout. The aforementioned Johnston Vidal lap pool extends to a dramatic 50 feet long, offering a refreshing plunge with a neighboring outdoor movie pavilion.
Sherri Rogers, Elisa Ritt and Anthony Stellini of Compass, and Asher Ehsani of Uhler Mortgage Solutions hold the listing.
