Fashion brand Bulgari is hoping to plant it’s hospitality flag in Los Angeles—if it can clear community opposition.
Urbanize reports that Bulgari Hotels & Resorts is eyeing redevelopment plans in Benedict Canyon. Bulgari Resort Los Angeles would feature 58 guest suites and eight private residences, in addition to a 10,000 square-foot spa, gym, theater and Bulgari’s signature restaurant Il Ristorante, Niko Romito.
Bulgari plans to partner with property owner and developer Gary Safady on the project, which has faced pushback from Benedict Canyon residents who are concerned about the increased risk of fires in an already fire-prone area of Los Angeles. The Canyon is also a popular cut-through for commuters, and those opposed to the redevelopment argue the project will only add to heavy traffic congestion.
Safady’s plan, as noted by Urbanize, calls for retaining 75 percent of the property as open space, in addition to adding up to 1,000 trees to the site.
Should the plans move forward, the hotel would be Bulgari’s first hotel and residence on the West Coast. The brand’s first U.S. property is set to open in Miami in 2024.
