Marketing firm Higher Visibility looked at average rent, home prices, happiness indicators, broadband availability, wifi hotspots, green space and even the number of coffee shops to find out which cities, large and small, are best for remote workers. And some of the biggest pros on that list belong to St. Petersburg, Florida,
As reported by the L.A. Business Journal, St. Petersburg, tops the list for cities under 1 million people, in large part to affordable housing options. The average home price is $10,000 under the national average at a cool $284,709.
Las Vegas, Miami, Indianapolis and Columbus round out the small city top five, with the researchers noting greater access to high-speed broadband as a driving factor.
When it comes to the larger cities of 1 million-plus, Texas claims three of the top five spots. Houston, San Antonio and Dallas come in first, second and third, respectively. Chicago is fourth with San Diego coming in at fifth.
Other California cities to receive high marks include Los Angeles (no. 7) and San Jose (no. 10).
The article notes a study from Upwork that found by 2025, about 22 percent—or 36.2 million American workers—will be remote.
