A beach cottage that dates all the way back to 1883—and is considered to be the oldest home in Laguna Beach—has sold for $5.6 million.
According to the O.C. Register, the bluff-top oceanfront house has naturally been rehabilitated and remodeled over the years, now supersized to include two structures. Each features three bedrooms and three baths, with original cottage windows and flooring in the modern kitchen and hallways.
According to the listing, the main house was the residence of Laguna Beach’s noted architect Thomas James Harper from the 1920s-1940s. His father, Thomas North Harper, built the cottage using ship wreckage that floated to shore along the local beach.
Per the O.C. Register, the home was initially listed at $7.95 million when it hit the market in May 2019 before a few rounds of price cuts. It’s most recent asking price was an even $6 million.
Brenna Van Hoogenstyn and Kathy Clark of Harcourts Prime Properties co-listed alongside Dianne Cannon of Compass. Jennifer Wu of Harcourts Pinnacle represented the buyer.
