Sen. Mitt Romney is saying goodbye to sunny SoCal. According to the New York Post, Romney has sold his La Jolla beach house for an eye popping $23.5 million in an off-market sale.
The 8,000 square-foot custom build has long been a thorn in the side of neighbors, after Romney demoed the previous 3,000 square-foot property and rebuilt a much larger home on the same small lot. Romney reportedly wanted to go even bigger, with initial planning documents set for an 11,000 square-foot home.
The home even became politicized in the 2012 presidential election, as opponents used the property to paint Romney as a wealthy person who is out of touch with the American people.
Biotech entrepreneur and venture capitalist William Rastetter is reportedly the new owner.
