Sunset4All and the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition have launched a $25,000 crowdfunding campaign to renovate key portions of Sunset and Santa Monica Boulevards east of Hollywood. According to Urbanize, the proposed areas include portions of Echo Park, Silver Lake and East Hollywood.
Per the campaign, the coalition is aiming to create 3.2 miles of protected bike lanes; enhanced crosswalks and bus stops; create new safe routes to schools; and build out pocket parks along the iconic roads.
The effort is modeled off of a similar campaign in Boulder, Colorado. Sunset4All also reports that it has engaged chambers of commerce, community groups, schools, neighborhood councils, elected officials at community events and one-on-ones, already raising $10,000 in grants. Additionally, tax-deductible donations to the campaign will be matched by anonymous donors, with the ultimate fundraising goal of $50,000.
Funds raised through the campaign will be put toward initial engineering plans for the project.
