Architectural landmarks aren’t generally a hard sell, but the recent closing on Pasadena’s Cordelia Culbertson House still managed to take industry insiders by surprise.
Marvel director Anthony Russo has sold the historic property for $6.25 million—a cool $250,000 over asking. According to the L.A. Times, Russo bought the home for $5.8 million in 2018, just before the release of his blockbuster hit film Avengers: Endgame.
The famed Craftsman-style was built 110 years ago by brothers Charles and Henry Greene. (It was also their last joint design venture.) With more than 8,600 square feet of living space in its iconic “U”-shaped design, the house wraps around an Italian-style garden. Elsewhere, there are six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a ballroom and an indoor-outdoor living room that expands to the garden outside.
The L.A. Times notes that the estate was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
Holly Purcell of Compass shared the listing with Crosby Doe of Crosby Doe Associates. Scott Lyle, also of Compass, represented the buyer.
