A second, and larger, tiny home village is set to welcome temporary residents in North Hollywood on Monday. Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission tells KTLA that the village set up at Alexandria Park will feature 103 units and 200 beds—making it the largest such community of tiny homes in the state.
“It’s an immediate solution to a very real problem in Los Angeles, and so the city of Los Angeles has adopted this as one of the solutions to ending homelessness,” Hope of the Valley President and CEO Ken Craft told KTLA.
The pallet shelter dwellings each have 64 square feet of living space, include two beds, air conditioning, a small desk and a door that can be locked. KTLA notes that each unit costs about $8,000 and can be assembled in just 90 minutes.
The village itself provides a number of amenities and essential services for the temporary residents, including meals, showers, laundry facilities, housing navigation for permanent housing opportunities and employment assistance.
This is the second tiny home village in the area, following the winter opening of the Chandler Boulevard Tiny Home Village, which has 39 homes and 85 beds. Service providers and community advocates are developing plans to construct pallet shelter communities like these in communities across L.A., urging city and county officials to join their efforts.
