HomeX, a home services platform for homeowners and contractors, has raised $90 million in a funding round led by New Mountain Capital. The platform is a one-stop-shop for virtual issue diagnosis, guided repairs and home management education.
HomeX uses artificial intelligence to virtually diagnose home troubles—like electrical, plumbing or appliance issues—before a contractor even goes out to a home, hoping to resolve a problem faster and with more preparation.
“We’re using machine-generated content to create solutions that are specific to a homeowner’s issues,” Co-Founder and President Vincent Payen told Tech Crunch. “Using machines to understand symptoms, the questions to ask and to actually get to a diagnosis and a recommendation or resolution is where AI absolutely shines and allows us to do things that were not possible even three or five years ago.”
Tech Crunch reports that one of the company’s co-founders, Simon Weaver, and several team members were on the development team of Evi—the AI program acquired by Amazon in 2012 that helped create Alexa. To that, we say: Alexa, ask HomeX to fix the dishwasher?
