Tenants across Los Angeles can submit their rent relief applications beginning tomorrow. In all, some $235.5 million in funds are available to Angelenos who have an income at or below 50 percent of an area‘s median income, and have experienced a pandemic-related financial hardship.
According to the L.A. Times, a family of four, for example, would be eligible with an income of $56,300 or less. Priority will be given to households earning 30% or less of an area‘s median income, and tenants are eligible regardless of their immigration status.
If selected, tenants could have all of their rent debt accrued from April 1, 2020-March 31, 2021, cleared. Landlords must agree to forgive 20 percent of the debt, while the city would pay the rest.
