San Diego is in the middle of a homebuilding boom. New data shows that the region saw an 18 percent increase in homes last year, compared to 2019 numbers. According to the San Diego Tribune, that tops all of the other major metropolitan areas in Souther California.
The Real Estate Research Council of Southern California says some 9,486 homes were built in San Diego in 2020. While it’s a sizable increase from the year prior, experts note that the region is still falling short when it comes to meeting demand and need. Per the Tribune, the region should be building up to 20,000 homes a year to keep up with demand.
Of the new builds last year, 3,160 were single-family homes, while 6,326 were multifamily homes, including apartments, condos and townhouses.
