The midcentury playground of Rancho Mirage is set to get a very modern update with the announcement of the country’s first-ever 3-D-printed housing development set for Spring 2022. The L.A. Times reports that development group Palari selected Rancho Mirage to house the five acre spread, which will feature 15 eco-friendly homes made from 3-D-printed panels by Mighty Buildings,a construction technology company based in Oakland.
Interested buyers will have to wait, however. The presale sold out within days of its launch a few weeks ago, with buyers paying $1,000 to reserve a spot, said Palari Chief Executive Basil Starr.
“It was reassuring to see such demand for these homes,” Starr told the L.A. Times, adding that most of the buyers were tech-savvy millennials with a passion for sustainability. Palari accepted cryptocurrency for the deposits, and two buyers paid in bitcoin.
Once completed, the three bed, two bath 1,450-square-foot homes will cost $595,000. A few will also have a 700-square-foot accessory dwelling unit with two bedrooms and a bathroom for $850,000. Each home will assembled in just a few months, arriving onsite as a kit.
