Local government is hoping to ensure California stays green with the awarding of $548 million in new grants for the creation of new green spaces and renovations to existing facilities across the state.
The California Department of Parks and Recreation made the announcement, with some $113 million of the total going to end projects in L.A. County. Included in the L.A. plans, the renovations of Green Meadows Recreation Center and Hazard Park, which were awarded $6.9 million and $8.2 million, respectively.
The creation of San Gabriel Valley Park will be funded at the $8.5 million level, and Salazar Park will get a modernization under the grant.
San Diego was also awarded funds for a number of project, including a new Fallbrook Park ($1.2 million) and new Beyer Park ($8.5 million). Gilman Ranch in Riverside will get a new Stagecoach Stop Park ($6 million) and Indio will build a new sports park with the support of $8.5 million in grant funding.
