If commuting by way of boat or helicopter is your preferred mode of transportation, then there’s a new listing in the Bay Area that may be perfect for you! Red Rock Island, San Francisco’s only privately-held island, is available on the MLS for the first time with an asking price of $25 million.
Currently owned by longtime Alaska resident Brock Durning, who inherited the island from his father, the six-acre island is composed of a sandy beach on the east side, a rockier shoreline on the south and trails that lead to the domed top of the island. And while there are currently no structures on the land, the options for development are plentiful.
While Red Rock Island is zoned for residential use, it is unclear how many homes could be built on the land. Over the years, ideas have been floated to develop the island into a hotel, marina, or residence. There was once also an idea to remove rock from the top of the island and use it for highway construction.
Chris Lim with Christie’s holds the listing.
