When you talk sky-high real estate in the Bay Area, cities like Atherton, Marin and San Francisco are usually top of mind. However, new numbers out from Zillow show a number of smaller cities surrounding the Bay have actually posted the largest year-over-year gains.
According to Zillow and reported by the SF Chronicle, six out of the top 10 cities with the biggest home price changes since last year fall within Alameda County. Of those on the list, Union City, Dublin and Pleasanton landed in the top spots, with 30-32 percent increases in home prices between Feb. 28, 2021-Feb. 28, 2022.
Union City has seen average prices grow from $1,047,044 to $1,380,394. Dublin’s typical home now comes in with an average price of $1,409,222, which Pleasanton has surpassed $1.6 million.
Other Alameda cities in the top 10 include Livermore, Castro Valley and Fremont. Oakley, in neighboring Contra Costa, had the “most affordable” housing among the list of largest gains. While average home in Oakley was $644,483 last year, real estate is now coming in at $808,361 in the city.
