The Dixie Fire continues to devistate Northern California, as some 39 percent of Plumas County residents have now been forced to evacuate. Firefighters report that the blaze is just 21 percent contained as of Monday morning.
Now going on 25 days, the fire has burned more than 489,000 acres, according to CNN. The Dixie Fire is just one of 11 active wildfires burning across California. According to the National Interagency Fire Center, as of Sunday, there were 107 large wildfires burning in 15 states, while more than 2.2 million acres have burned.
“We have a deep responsibility to rebuild this community,” California Gov. Gavin Newsom said while visiting the town of Greenville, which was ravaged by the fire last week. “But also address the intensity of what is occurring globally, but manifesting in smash-mouth ways here in California—and that’s climate change.”
