With the national eviction moratorium set to expire in weeks, the Treasury Department announced it has given out another $6 billion to states in an effort to support landlords and renters.
According to CNBC, 1 in 7 renters in the U.S. still say they’re behind on payments following the COVID impact on finances. Among Black renters, that share increases to 1 in 5.
Between the last two major stimulus packages, Congress has allocated more than $45 billion in rental assistance nationally. Additional funding is expected to be made available over the next few months.
Per CNBC, more than 360 programs are dishing out the federal rental assistance across the country. The National Low Income Housing Coalition has a list on their website.
