While not a COVID-induced mass exodus, state officials just announced that California lost 182,083 people in 2020, bringing the total population to 39.5 million, according to Associated Press by way of the L.A. Times.
The cause of the decline is said to be lower birth rates, reductions in immigration and deaths due to COVID-19.
Last week, the U.S. Census Bureau announced that, for the first time ever, California would lose a congressional seat because it grew more slowly than other states during the past decade.
