The city of Long Beach has begun accepting rental relief applications with $29 million in emergency assistance available to renters and landlords in financial hardship due to the pandemic. According to the city’s website, funds can be used to pay back rent and utility bills.
Eligible parties must have a household income at or below 80 percent of the Area Median Income noted below. Priority will be given to those at or below 50 percent, as well as those who have been unemployed for at least 90 days.
If you are a landlord who has one or more eligible tenants, you can apply to get reimbursed for 80 percent of each eligible tenant’s unpaid rent between April 1, 2020, and March 31, 2021—if you agree to waive the remaining 20 percent of unpaid rent for that specific time period.
