While some units sit on the luxury market for months on end, it didn’t take long for these dual penthouses to sell—and set a record!
The estate of the late George Shultz, former U.S. Secretary of State, and his late wife Charlotte, the former San Francisco and California state protocol chief, listed the couples two Russian Hill penthouse units separately last month, and now both units have sold together n what is being called the highest-priced condos in San Francisco history.
Originally listed for $17 million and $12 million, respectively, the luxury “north and south penthouses” at 999 Green Street have sold for a combined $29 million!
The larger unit features three bedrooms and four-and-a-half baths with some 5,380 square feet of living space. Just across the hall, the slightly smaller unit features three bedrooms and four baths at just under 5,000 square feet.
Both North and South-facing penthouses make a statement with floor-to-ceiling glass and grand staircases that link two lavish levels. Each unit also boasts wraparound terraces and are rather identical in design. These one-of-a-kind penthouses have come to the market just twice since inception in 1973. Set atop 999 Green Street, the building amenities include 24-hour doorman, while the penthouses include deeded parking and extra storage.
The condo sale that previously held the title for the highest-price sale was a 20,000-square-foot penthouse at the St. Regis Hotel, which sold for $28 million in 2011, according to the S.F. Chronicle.
Karen Mendelsohn Gould and Maximillian Armour of Compass held the dual listings.
