The great California migration during COVID has been widely disproven as anecdotal exaggeration, but is San Francisco set for an exodus of residents?
The new American Housing Survey finds more people plan to leave the city by the Bay more than any other major metro in the U.S. The survey, conducted once every two years by the U.S. Census Bureau, shows that 17.2 percent of San Francisco metro area residents plan on moving from their home in the next year. Of those residents who said they plan on moving, nearly half say they plan on moving to a different city, the largest share of any major metro in the data.
Seattle and Dallas were close behind with the second- and third-largest share of survey responses indicating intent to leave their respective cities.
In SoCal, both Riverside and L.A. also made the top 15 list of metros with residents who intend to move, coming in at no. 7 and 8, respectively.
