If your social stream isn’t already rainbowed out, allow us to add some more color with these new survey results highlighting the best cities for LGBTQ+ home buyers.
Realtor.com’s team found states that had at least 2.5 married or co-habitating same-sex couples per 1,000 residents using U.S. Census Bureau data, as well as cities in those states that received a score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s annual Municipal Equality Index, where the LGBTQ+ advocacy group assesses equality in cities’ policies, laws and services. Couple that with the median list price of a home in May, the team then limited the list to just one destination per state to ensure geographic diversity.
Pittsburgh came in at #1 on this year’s list, with a solid reputation as gay friendly and a median list price of $299,050 last month. Providence and Virginia Beach rounded out the top 3, with median home prices of $299,950 and $337,050, respectively.
Representing for SoCal is the city of Long Beach, which placed at #10. Admittedly not exactly affordable, with a media home price of $729,050, Long Beach makes up for it in community. The survey notes that Long Beach Pride has been held every June since the 1980s and includes a weeklong celebration of the diverse LGBTQ community. Besides the beaches, there is also plenty of nightlife and culture—especially in the gayborhood section of Downtown.
