A famed L.A. home is no more. And the Internet is not happy about it. Chris Pratt And Katherine Schwarzenegger have reportedly demoed the 74-year-old Zimmerman House, designed by modernist architect Craig Ellwood. The Brentwood home marked one of Ellwood’s earliest projects.
Pratt and Schwarzenegger bought the home—which was not deemed historic by the city—in an off-market deal for $12.5 million. The couple plans on building a 15,000 square foot mansion across the street from Schwarzenegger’s mother.
Nonprofit Save Iconic Architecture called the demolition “devastating” in an Instagram post, noting that “learning that Chris Pratt and Kathryn Schwarzenegger were involved in tearing down this piece of history adds another layer of disappointment. Our architectural heritage deserves better preservation.”
According to Dwell, the couple also tore up modernist legend Garrett Eckbo’s original landscaping, effectively turning the nearly one-acre lot into one flat slab.
