Irvine’s green space project dubbed the Great Park Framework Plan is underway with the official ground breaking on 300 acres of new green space. Once completed, the massive project with will span more than 1,300 acres.
According to Urbanize, following the demolition of a former Marine Corps Air Station El Toro building, the entire park is set to include: a Veterans Memorial Park and Gardens; botanical gardens; a new library; an arboretum; amphitheater with space for up to 14,000 seats operated by Live Nation; and a grand promenade.
Additionally, the park is set to include the Great Meadow, which will provide a large open space within the park and neatly 18 acres of water. The park is also home to the Wild Rivers waterpark, which opened in July 2022.
The full project, once completed, will be one of the largest municipal parks in the world.
