Summer is here and California’s drought only appears to be getting worse. As new water restrictions hit homeowners up and down the Golden State, we turned to California Listings Glendale expert Jerry Armen for some tips and tricks on creating appealing and eco-friendly home improvements to help ease you through these scorching months.
“First and foremost, clean and declutter the property,” Armen says when it comes to the most important updates to create eco improvements. “If you’re contemplating listing your home, keep it as simple as possible so that potential buyers can visualize the possibilities. Rocks and mulch are your best friends!”
Armen and his team have helped dozens of clients improve their yards to be more eco- and drought-friendly, leading to not only enhanced curb appeal, but profitable returns on investment (seen in the photos throughout this piece).
Other ideas for building a drought-tolerant yard include reconsidering when and how you water, like opting for shorter watering periods at night. You can improve plant health with organic compost, and even replace grass with drought-tolerant plants like catmint, salvia and artemisia.
For those in the market, Armen warns to be aware of any zoning or required approvals that may be needed to make landscaping changes, should the property not already have a drought-tolerant yard. Overall however, he says the transition is not costly.
For homeowners who are looking to drought-proof their property, Armen is available for consult and evaluations. To connect with Jerry and his team, head to his California Listings profile by clicking here.
