Relocation Interest Up To 32.3 Percent In 2022

As home prices continue to rise throughout most of the country, many buyers are finding themselves priced out and are looking to move.

According to new data out from Redfin, 32.3 percent of Redfin.com users looked to relocate in January and February, up from 31.5 percent in the first quarter of 2021 and up from 26 percent in 2019, before the pandemic began. 

As prices continue to rise throughout most of the country, and with many buyers still on remote work plans, the push to move in stronger than ever. 

Miami continued to be the most popular destination for homebuyers looking to relocate in January and February, followed by Phoenix, Tampa, Sacramento and Las Vegas. Sunny, relatively affordable metro areas perennially top the list of places homebuyers are looking to move, per Redfin.

Sacramento was the only California market to crack the top 10 list.

More homebuyers looked to leave San Francisco than any other metro in January and February, followed by Los Angeles, New York, Washington, D.C. and Seattle. Significantly, more Redfin.com users looked to leave San Francisco, L.A., D.C. and Seattle in January and February than a year earlier.
