Both year-end and Q4 earnings reports are rolling in, and Compass is serving mixed results.
During the final three months of 2021, Compass earned $1.6 billion in revenue—marking a 31 percent increase compared to the fourth quarter of 2020. Quarter-over-quarter, Compass’ revenue was down from Q3, when the brokerage posted $1.74 billion.
At the same time, the company lost $175 million during Q4 of last year, largely related to Compass’ initial public offering last spring. The earnings report notes that majority of the losses were driven by the non-cash stock-based compensation, specifically accounting for $93 million in losses during Q4.
By comparison, in Q3, Compass lost $100 million one quarter prior, and $7.1 million in Q2.
For 2021 as a whole, Compass’ revenue was up 73 percent to $6.4 billion, while losses totaled $494 million. Compass agents closed a record 225,000 transactions last year, up 56 percent in 2021.
