When looking at the 100 most expensive zip codes for median home sale prices in the U.S. this year, Property Shark found an interesting—albeit not all that surprising statistic: California has the bulk of the priciest real estate in the country.
In fact, of the 127 (due to multiple ties) most expensive zip codes tracked for 2021, 70 percent are in California!
Los Angeles gets the dubious title of the most expensive county with 21 entries on this year’s list. Beverly Hills’ famed 90210 is once again the most expensive zip in the county, landing at no. 6 nationally with a $4,125,000 median sale price.
In terms of county presence, NorCal had a strong showing with Santa Clara County boasting 15 zip codes in the top 127 list, while San Mateo had 10 zip codes make the list. Orange County was close behind with nine entries.
Speaking of San Mateo County, it’s home to the most expensive zip code in the country, according to Property Shark. Reaching a new record median sale price at $7,475,000, Atherton’s 94027 remains the most expensive zip code in the U.S. for the fifth consecutive year. Even more impressive, Atherton’s media sale price is $2 million above this year’s the runner-up: Boston’s 02199.
The 10 priciest zip codes in the country now sport median sale prices of $4 million and above. According to the study, the 10 most expensive zip codes in the U.S. were provided by five states (as opposed to last year’s three): California claimed six of the top 10, joined by Massachusetts, Florida and Washington, as well as New York, which was solely represented by the Hamptons.
