Sales of new single‐family homes were on the up and up last month!
September 2021 sales were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 800,000, according to estimates released jointly by the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. This represents a 14 percent increase over the revised August rate of 702,000.
New home sales for September 2021 were, however, 17.6 percent below the September 2020 sales of 971,000.
Not only were monthly sales numbers up, but so too were prices. U.S. Census and HUD found that the median sales price of new houses sold in September 2021 was $408,800—more than 18 percent above the median sales price one year ago.
