Accessibility is king when it comes to properties in the Beach Cities. Sure, Malibu has gorgeous coastal homes, but buyers who head a bit further south have tapped into a secret that very few other locations in Southern California can claim to be true: In Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach, you can have luxury beach homes with city conveniences.
You needn’t look further than 508 The Strand, a stunning modern beach home that just set a new record as the highest price single family home sale on a standard lot on the Strand and in the Sands Section at $19.2 million.
California Listings Hermosa Beach expert Robb Stroyke, co-founder and partner at Bayside Real Estate Partners, held the listing, and shared with us that the record sale was possible thanks to a few key factors coming together, starting with that picture-perfect location. The property’s proximity to both the beach and the town’s dining and shops simply can’t be beat.
“John Starr, the home’s designer, is also a genius when it comes to designing creative space that maximizes light and utility,” Stroyke adds. “Couple that with the former owner’s design finishes—including really cool antique doors imported from France, the wide oak flooring, metal windows—and it’s just obvious that no expense was spared in creating a beautiful space.”
The home itself is a three-story beach-front oasis, featuring reclaimed wood beams and floor-to-ceiling glass, maximizing the unblockable, panoramic beach, white water, and ocean views—point-to-point, from Palos Verdes to Malibu. Boasting five bedrooms (plus a den) and five-and-a-half baths across 4,325 square feet of living space, the home is simply a showstopper.
And showstoppers require a bit of patience. Listed in March of 2021, it took just under seven months to find the perfect buyer.
“Some doubted that we’d achieve a sale at this price point, so it’s personally very gratifying,” Stroyke says. “At Bayside, we a 30-year history of a common sense, reasoned approach to real estate. Our clients benefit from our uniquely analytical approach and extensive industry knowledge, as was the case here.”
Stroyke also credits the home’s builder, Steve Larkin of SRL General Contractors, and the owners, who along with the designer, created a home that is just custom enough, yet still affords the new owners opportunity to come in and make the property their own.
“The new owner is going to be really, really happy here, with the unique aspects of the property and the unbeatable location,” Stroyke adds. “Bayside has had the good fortune of having great clients who stretch for the location and who push new records!”
