Despite an overall decline nationally, the latest jobs report showed strong growth in the real estate industry. According to the Labor Department, and reported by Inman, companies employing real estate agents, brokers and related roles added 10,600 jobs in August, approximately double the number of new roles they added in July.
Things looked a bit different on the new construction front, as hiring by homebuilders dropped from 897,400 in July to 894,200 in August. Inman notes that the decline in homebuilder jobs were roughly in line with typical seasonal patterns.
In all, some 1,785,600 people were employed in the Labor Department’s real estate category in August—a 5 percent year-over-year increase.
