Proper Hospitality has announced the opening of Downtown L.A. Proper, debuting July 1.
Set in a reimagined landmark building in the heart of Downtown’s South Park District, adjacent to the Fashion District, the 148-room hotel brings together the vision of acclaimed designer Kelly Wearstler, James Beard Foundation Award-winning chef Suzanne Goin and restaurateur Caroline Styne.
Downtown L.A. Proper will feature an intimate library-lounge, a city-view rooftop pool and lounge-bar-restaurant. According to the press release, guest rooms will be Deeply residential in feel, each of the rooms and suites is a canvas for curated pieces and specially designed furnishings with charcoal and mauve tones lending depth and warmth.
The historic building has seen many lives since construction in the 1920s. Notably, the space was initially a private club whose members included luminaries such as Cecil B. DeMille, and was subsequently a YWCA in the 1960s.
Honoring the building’s history, Proper will feature two singular, one-of-a-kind suites fashioned from the basketball court and indoor pool of the building’s sporting club past.
Downtown L.A. Proper will feature three dining and drinking destinations, including lobby level restaurant and bar Caldo Verde, Mexican-inspired Cara Cara, set on the property’s 5,000 square-foot rooftop, and Dalia, an intimate ground level classic cocktail lounge.
